Southeast Missouri Health Network

New Madrid, founded in 1789, is the oldest American city west of the Mississippi River. This small community of 3,500 is conveniently located 175 miles south of the St. Louis metropolitan area and 110 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee, on Interstate 55.

The Southeast Missouri Health Network opened in 1978 as a group of physicians’ practices to provide health care in the critically underserved area. At the time, only one physician was practicing in New Madrid. Since 1988, Southeast Missouri Health Network has expanded to provide health care in surrounding areas where financial barriers restrict access to proper health care. Expansion sites provide comprehensive primary care to the underserved in the area, which include migrant and seasonal farm workers.
